"Outta My Way"
Trauma Records

Outta My Way is the title of THE FLYS' second Trauma Records/Delicious Vinyl album (third album overall). Sure its about cars, girls and surfing, but the last couple years have been life changing for the Hollywood-based band. While their sound may be much heavier,THE FLYS' music chronicles the lifestyle of modern day Beach Boys.

Starting with playing at A Day In The Garden'98 (on the original Woodstock site) to opening for the Rolling Stones, the extreme band has brought their hard, energetic sound throughout North America and Europe. And they've made many fans in their journey. "

After meeting Keith Richards all I want to do is wake up at thecrack of noon, and sit on the couch and play," reveals guitarist and ex-mountain biker Peter Perdichizzi. "The vibe of the record is about a true surfer's lifestyle,"says vocalist Adam Paskowitz. "While Peter is working on new riffs, James, Jack and I are hanging ten at Malibu."

THE FLYS' tentacles stretch from New York toHawaii, capturing sumo wrestler "Baby" Bono (younger brother of world champion Akebono) to grace the cover of Outta My Way. The new album has an in-your-face direction that could blow-up a smallcity with its mean bass and drums and slamming guitar. THE FLYS have continued their writing process with "impromptu" sessions of James, Adam and Peter, but the road warriors have found a newpowerful and infectious simplicity in their travels.

"We refocused our strength of what we areabout. Our music is about fast and furious energy, and the new albumthematically is a snapshot of our lives." states Adam."The sound is much more focused and Adam's lyrics are stronger due to the span of the last couple ofyears," explains Peter. "We incorporated all the wisdom that comes from the ongoing touring and musical growth, and made a record that will further enhance our live performances." "No Sad Story" is about the unusualway the Paskowitz family raised their offspring. "It is about growing up poor and being raised in a camper with nine kids,"explains Adam. "We all have our problems, but the way I see it, there is no sad story. Everyone is happy, they just don't know it." The title track, "Outta My Way," withit's heavy dose of adrenaline, serves as a call to follow your owninstincts and not empower a "clique mentality.""Helluva Time" depicts a dating tale with a sick twist. "Ain't No Stoppin U" is this album's tribute to the power of thefemale, while "Losin It" is about falling victim toyour own devices - especially if that device is a woman.

Naturally, surfing is naturally their re-occurring theme."'My Day' is about waking up and not feeling good about life, but if the waves are happening, you'll be allright," says Adam. "We flew to Maui to record ukulele player, Boy Kanae, for 'Hawaiian Dreams.'" The song is a departure from the heavy soundwith its authentic, island melody and a modern take on classic Hawaiian music.

Yeah, the "Paskowitz Nebulizer" - theself-invented mega-vocal distortion generator - is back, but in its new form called E.V.E. (electronic vocal emulator) andis lighter, faster and even more high-tech. If the last album was aboutan Ozzy and Sly-meets-Fly fiesta, this album is a crazy weekend with theOzzman at Brian Wilson's house (everyone in the sandbox). "One of my favorites is 'Fire In ThePit,'" says James, THE FLYS' bassist. "While it is about living in the belly of the beast in Hollywood, it also reflects the live show and how insane it gets!"

Their previous album, HolidayMan, hit #1 on Billboard Heatseekers as well as topping the New Alternative Artist chart, spawning two singles including a top 5 modern rock smash "Got You (Where I Want You)." It has been top 50 at the format for 2 years running (#44 in 1998 and #29 for 1999), and is approaching gold record status. The single was rising toward its pinnacle when the band performed the song at the end of 1998 onLate Night with Conan O'Brien.

Featuring actress Katie Holmes, the video received heavy rotation on MTV, M2 andThe Box. Coincidentally, the single laterappeared in Holmes' TV show Dawson's Creek. This was followed by the pop-masterpiece second single "She's So Huge," helping to further establish the band as innovative provocateurs. THEFLYS in addition made television appearances on CNN and several MTV programs including 120 Minutes and Loveline. The band has received praise from suchpublications as Rolling Stone, Spin, Entertainment Weekly and Guitar World. The Paskowitz family is something of an institution in itself with the irnationally renowned Orange County summer surf camp, which has been coveredin recent years by such news outlets as CBS's Sunday Morning and CNN to The New York Times. Eight boys and a daughter were all raised in acamper in search of the best waves. They were home schooled by their parents - their father, a certified medical doctor and author, at 80 still surfs everyday; and their mother is a former opera singer. Continuing the family's legacy, Adam used to be a professional surfer while his brother Jonathan was one of the founders of Black Flys eyewear, a major sponsor of the band.

Producer (and Masters of Reality member) Chris Goss, whodue to his early belief in THE FLYS' mantra helped the band getsigned to their current deal, is back at the helm on Outta My Way. "He is big, strong, bald and said if we use anyone else he would kick theirass. We fortunately accepted his offer . after all he is the desert dwelling father of metal," explains Peter.

The band did manage to bypass Goss' Palm Springs studio though, recording in Hollywood where the band could still catch some waves at sunrise. Their mammoth nearby studio space, where the new songs were written, has become a multi-purpose hideout. Itserves as the band's living room, conference room, equipment storage, surfboard closet and garage for Adam's self-built, super-charged Camaro, high-tech4-wheel drive van and soon a new Ford Focus car (that he managed to have donated to their cause). "We're not afraid to wear Ford underpants," laughs Adam."We are like NASCAR drivers." Along with acquiring free surf gear and snowboards, their latest"gift" and hobby is carveboarding, which Jamesdescribes as "snowboarding on asphalt." THE FLYS are bringing their merchandizing to a new levelin the spirit of Wu-Tang Clan, creating their own line of FLYSGEAR surfboards and skateboards to sell through their Web site.

If you see THE FLYS at the beach (or anywhere else for that matter) be nice - they're locals.
