The early 80's was a busy time for Bernie Torme: following a fistful of hits as a member of heavy metal giants Gillian, he departed from that band to replace Randy Rhoades in Ozzy Osbourne's Blizzard Of Ozz. Following a brief stint with Ozzy, Bernie returned to the UK to release a solo album, "Turn Out The Lights," which charted in the UK top 30 in 1982. Bernie then replaced front man John Cann in progressive rock legends Atomic Rooster, touring and playing on their 1983 album, "Headline News." In the spring and summer of 1983, Bernie recorded the "Electric Gypsies" album, which was released in September of that year. In October of 1983, Bernie went on a UK tour to promote "Electric Gypsies." Certain dates on this tour were recorded for a planned live album. The tour was an exciting blend of Bernie's usual guitar pyrotechnics interspersed with guest appearances from many of Bernie's star studded friends, including Bruce Dickinson and Janick Gers of Iron Maiden, John McCoy of Gillian and Charlie Harper of The UK Subs. This album was gleaned from the recordings made during that 1983 tour. It clearly displays Bernie's absolute mastery of his 60's stratocaster and marshall amp in its natural live habitat, untroubled by studio sleight of hand and backed only by the rock solid bass and drums of Ron Rebel and Colin Bond. Bernie Torme "Live" is raw, powerful and not to be missed.
