Sloth"Dead Generation" L.A.-area natives, Sloth, really are apathetic in name alone. The band first gained attention by unofficially tagging along with the 1999 summer Warped Tour playing in parking lots for the concert goers as they were on their way into the arenas. Half way thru the tour, rap artist and tour-headliner Ice-T got an earful of the band and brought them onto the tour. Idleness will also be the last thing to come to mind just seconds after you put on Sloth's CD, Dead Generation, as each some comes crashing out of your speakers. This 11-song collection is a big sounding recording where each song just exudes both raw power and catchy melodies. The opening cut, "All We Know" is addictive. Lead singer Rich Love undulates back and forth between clear and gentle to fierce, powerful vocals. "Myself" is a little more contemporary sounding and could easily be put into heavy rotation of any alternative radio station. The vocals are dynamic, and Adam Figura's drumming and Andy Kowatch's bass rhythms in this song are both mighty. The title cut, "Dead Generation" is cool sounding with a hypnotic groove, fluctuating back and forth between the ballsy chorus and the verses, and feature intense guitar riffs by guitarist Kristo Panos. Other impressive cuts on Dead Generation include: "Open Your Eyes," with a wild yet controlled meter, almost an eastern sounding harmonic influence, and a blatantly tight recording. "Broken Crutch" which has got kind of a modern-day Doors-ish, psychedelic feel. The anger-fueled "Nothing's New," and another modern and catchy tune just destined for radio airplay, "Even Though It's Over." Sloth is definitely a band to keep on the lookout for. They're grab you just as they did Ice-T, and myself…and you'll love the ride. Check these guys out on the web at: http://www.slothmusic.com |
