Asskicker

"The Barley And Yeast Brain Glaze"
(independent release)
by Jonathan Mariante

Well, these guys do live up to their name, I'll say that for 'em! They play very aggressive, very raw, very violent Pantera style metal. Hell, they even sound more Pantera than Pantera! One reason being that while Pantera, being a superstar, major label band, had slick, high tech production on their albums, while these guys keep it very raw and done-to-the-bone. The singing (by Frank Lazorishchik) is very Phil Anselmo, while the guitar playing (courtesy of Ryan Mazur), very Dimebag. Asskicker never stops kicking, from beginning to end, this album is pure, raw aggression all the way, with some very violent, graphic lyrics. Lyrically, these guys could give Cannibal Corpse a run for their money, and they rival many other bands in terms of aggression, as well as talent. Asskicker can play, and they are a tight little unit! Mazur blitzes on his guitar, throwing in a razor sharp solo on just about every song! These guys really rip it up, or should I say rip it off, as this is good music to have your face ripped of by! Normally speaking, I'm not all that crazy about Pantera clones, but I'll make an exception in this case, as these guys not only do as their name suggests, they even outdo Pantera in some ways!
