Evergrey

"The Inner Circle"
(InSide Out Music)
by John Haseltine

A mesmerizing release from Swedish Grammy nominated Evergrey. 'The Inner Circle' is a concept album exploring the nuances of religious cults. Guitarist/vocalist and main song writer Tom S. Englund explains,"it is told from every ones point of view. And it shows how you fall deeper and deeper into a state of apathy, losing more and more control and power over yourself and your dreams. It's about fanatics, and not a specific religious group." The band also includes Henrik Danhage-guitars, Michael Hakansson-bass, Rikard Zander- keyboards and drummer, Jonas Ekdahl. The album starts of with a melodic, yet powerful track titled,' A Touch Of Blessing'. Keep an eye out for the video. Onto some of the more heavier tracks. 'Ambassador, In The Wake Of The Weary'. These just kick ass. The musicianship of Evergrey is impeccable. They also use the angelic vocals of Carina, Englund's wife on various tracks throughout. 'Harmless Wishes' has a steady rocking tempo.'Waking Up Blind' slows things down a touch, showcasing the mellower side of the band and the amazing voice talent of Englund. A wonderful ballad. 'More Than Ever', is a heavy riffing, in your face type of song. As well as 'The Essence Of Conviction and Where All Good Sleep'. 'Faith Restored' is a beautifully done acoustic track. 'When The Walls Go Down' rounds out the disk. A very thought provoking track. As is the whole album itself. This is metal Evergrey style. Melodic, yet heavy and sure to please. Evergrey is currently on tour with Iced Earth and Children Of Bodom. Check them out.
