Kraised

"Haywire Logic"
(Beltin' Records)
by Jonathan Mariante

Not long ago, I reviewed a Kraised EP that was a sampler of this album, and this time I got the whole deal. And after listening to it, I have to say, Kraised sure know how to kick ass! They serve up some mean aggro-metal, influenced by everyone from Pantera to punk, and everything in between! They are raw, aggressive, hard as a brick, and tight as a pair of old designer jeans! The guitar playing (by Kris Pierce) is very Dimebag, but singer The Tones, actually SINGS, rather that scream and torture his tonsils, like Phil Anselmo and his multitudes of wannabeelikes. Tones ain't a half bad singer either, and he's got attitude! The kick off song, "Impact", sounds like Sabbath's "NIB" meets Pantera with Fred Durst-type singing (Tones does the Durst style better than Durst himself, if you ask me!). Now these guys are certainly not copycats (and for that alone they deserve a pat on the back!) but there are some songs on here that sounds influenced by the Pantera classics. "Out Of Danger" has a riff like the one from "Cowboys From Hell", "Close My Eyes" is a ballad similar to "Cemetery Gates", and "Take Away" is a bit like "Drag The Waters". We also got some straight up, ass kicking metal tunes on here, like "Bury Me Alive", "No Way, No How", "Sucks To Be You", and "Microburst". Always good to have some of those! And then we have "Shame On Me", which sounds like Pantera going funk, with rapping! This tune is a kick! And the rest of the album is a kick in the ass! Kraised are a lean, mean metal machine that, while they are influenced by Pantera and many other masters, have a style that's all their own, and are a talented bunch that could wipe the floor with many of today's big names!
