Hard 20 |
Roxx"Outlaws, Fools, And Thieves" I know there are a lot of folks out there who miss the Sunset Strip glam scene of the 80s. If you are one such person, then Roxx is just the band for you! They play high energy, hard rocking, pop flavored glam metal, that sounds straight out of 80s LA! Their sound is akin to the legends of the scene like Crue, Poison, Roxx Gang, Tuff, Winger, Faster Pussycat, Autograph, Pretty Boy Floyd, a little bit of Aerosmith thrown in...you get the idea. Singer Joey D'Angelo is a bit like Vince Neil or Stevie Rachelle. There are two guitarists in this band, Franky Novello and Randy Ferri, and the dual guitar sound beefs things up a bit. Most of the tunes on this disc are good old fashioned hard rock songs, slick but edgy, like "Rocking Horse", "Towing The Line", "In The Groove" (a different version of this song is included as a bonus track), "Ball And Chain", "Tell Me", the honky tonkin' "Pint Of Blues", the hard 'n' dirty "Mr. Mean", and the fast, smokin' "Turns To Gold". We also got a couple of ballads here, "Give Up Your Heart" (which features a sax solo, not too common with bands like this) and "Shy Away". Roxx and a handful of other bands seem to have taken it upon themselves to pick up the torch of the 80s Sunset Strip scene that got dropped somewhere down the line, and charge into the future with it! Whether bands like this will ever reach the level of success they once did remains to be seen, but there is certainly a dedicated audience for this style of music, and Roxx are a band fans of 80s glam should definitely get into!
