Urban Rest Stop provides a clean, safe and welcoming facility where homeless individuals and families can come and use restrooms, shower and laundry facilities at no cost. The organization's program manager, Ronni Gilboa, explains where the money is going: "The Urban Rest Stop will use this most generous gift to assist in covering the increased daily operating costs caused by our facility expansion. With the addition of a Women's restroom , doubling our laundry capacity and waiting room space and the coming provision of on-site nursing services (in cooperation with Harborview Hospital), the Urban Rest Stop has experienced an 75% increase in service delivery. Funds will be used to pay for the increased utility, cleaning and hygiene supplies, repairs and other related costs. During the summer, the Urban Rest Stop experiences a daily foot traffic of 800 individuals , provides 225 showers, 150 laundry loads and 500 restroom uses daily." Ferret Music artists Gwen Stacy have recently announced tour dates with hometown friends Haste the Day as well as their summer festival schedule. Gwen Stacy will play July 18th in Indianapolis, IN at The Music Mill with Haste the Day to benefit the Red Cross and their efforts to restore life to those affected by the tornadoes and flooding. All proceeds from the show will go directly to The Red Cross organization. Drummer TJ Sego commented on the benefit show “My hometown and our bassist Brent Schindler’s hometown are both disaster areas right now. Southern and central Indianapolis has been destroyed. I live outside of Franklin, IN now so I missed it, but my parents were stuck for 3 days. This whole flood thing has hit really close to us. My high school and Brent's high school were both destroyed. Nobody has flood insurance there, everyone has lost everything. We just wanted to do our part.” After this show, the band will hit the road in August again with Haste the Day, making their way to Purple Door Festival in Pennsylvania. Afterwards, Gwen Stacy will continue on to Taking Back the Streets Festival in North Carolina. The trek will have them playing with August Burns Red, Oh, Sleeper, Inhale/Exhale, Emery, As Cities Burn, The Chariot, Advent, Mychildren Mybride, and more. “We've never played these festivals before, there are a lot of good bands playing that we haven't played with that I'll be excited to meet and play with them.” Sego continued about their festival appearances. Formed in 1982 in Berkeley, CA, LAAZ ROCKIT is considered to be one the founders of the unique genre of Bay Area thrash metal. The band's new style of metal garnered a huge fan base, with their high energy live performances becoming their signature trademark. Sold out performances in the burgeoning club scene soon gave LAAZ ROCKIT label attention, and the indie label Target Entertainment inked the band for their debut album, City's Gonna Burn, in 1984. Viewed as a classic "blue-print" in the beginning of thrash metal, City's Gonna Burn placed LAAZ ROCKIT in the arena with other powerhouse metal bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Exodus, and Anthrax. A new sound was created by these pioneers that continues to inspire many bands to this day. LAAZ ROCKIT would release five more full length albums and an EP over the next eight years, with 1987's Know Your Enemy and 1989's Annihilation Principle securing both fan and critical acclaim worldwide. The band toured throughout North America, Europe, and Japan during this period, raising the bar for metal acts to follow with their unique live performance and rapport with fans at every gig along the way. Though the band broke up in 1993, the members remained great friends. Because of this, the possibility of performing together again was always there, and, in 2005, the band had a perfect opportunity to do so. The 2005 Dynamo Open Air Festival in the Netherlands was a celebration of 80's thrash metal bands, and LAAZ ROCKIT was billed for the main stage along with Anthrax and Testament. This show, along with a club appearance with Testament, would be LAAZ's first live appearance since Tokyo in 1992. After enjoying the fun and success of playing live again, the band appeared at the San Francisco Thrash Against Cancer Benefit in July 2005 and traveled to Japan with their brothers in Testament for the two-night, sold-out Thrash Domination Festival, with Kreator and Destruction also on the bill. A headlining appearance at Germany's "Keep It True" festival with Diamondhead and Sabbat, and two shows in the Netherlands and Belgium in spring of 2007 were the only gigs for LAAZ ROCKIT that year. The band brought along a new drummer for these shows, Sky Harris. In August 2006, LAAZ ROCKIT released LIVE UNTOLD, a DVD that encapsulates the story of LAAZ with concert footage, photos, and interviews that chronicle the band from its inception to the present day. It is a classic, detailing the band in a unique fashion and showcasing their brotherhood throughout their lives. Due to the overwhelming response of the fans, LAAZ ROCKIT's back catalogue is being re-mastered and re-released on OLD SCHOOL METAL RECORDS, which also released the LIVE UNTOLD DVD. The double-album chronicled their mammoth tours of 1977-78, which built on the breakthrough success of their consecutive Top 5 LPs Leftoverture (1976, with "Carry On Wayward Son") and Point Of Know Return (1977, with "Point Of Know Return" and "Dust In the Wind"). To the delight of Kansas completists around the world, TWO FOR THE SHOW will finally restore the live version of "Closet Chronicles" to the playlist (on disc two). This rarity was first heard on the Point Of Know Return album, and as the B-side of the "Point Of Know Return" single. When the first-generation CD of Two For the Show was issued in 1989, "Closet Chronicles" (which preceded "Magnum Opus" as the next-to-last track on the double-LP) was cut for length reasons. The live version of "Closet Chronicles" anchors CD two on the new package, whose 10 other live tracks gathered from the 1977-78 tours are previously unreleased. Among them is the closing track, the cover of J.J. Cale's "Bring It Back," which Kansas picked up from Cale's debut LP of 1971, Naturally. The band recorded it (as "Bringing It Back") on their own self-titled debut album of 1974, Kansas, on the Kirshner label, distributed by Epic Associated Labels. It remained their only non-Kansas composition recorded during their entire first decade 1974-83, and their nine studio LPs on Kirshner (before moving to MCA in 1986, when they began to record 'outside' material). The original classic lineup of Kansas lead singer and keyboardist Steve Walsh, guitarist Kerry Livgren, guitarist Rich Williams, violinist and singer Robby Steinhardt, bassist Dave Hope, and drummer Phil Ehart remained intact for that first decade, before taking a well-earned three year sabbatical from October 1983 to late-1986. By the time they regrouped in '86, Livgren had gone on to a solo career as a Christian music artist (with Hope), Steinhardt had left, and the core of Walsh, Williams, and Ehart brought in guitarist (and occasional violinist) Steve Morse from Dixie Dregs, and bassist Billy Greer. On occasion, Livgren (who is now a farmer) and Steinhardt have rejoined, and Morse was replaced by David Ragsdale on violin and guitar. The current touring lineup stars Ehart, Greer, Ragsdale, Walsh, and Williams. Expanded editions of Leftoverture (and 1975's Masque), both with bonus tracks and liner notes written by David Wild, were issued by Legacy in May 2001. The next year, an expanded edition of Point Of Know Return (with two bonus tracks, and liner notes again written by David Wild) was issued by Legacy in February 2002. Most recently, expanded editions of 1974's Kansas and Song For America (both with bonus tracks and new liner notes) were issued in June 2004. In July 2004, the two-CD box set Sail On was issued. The deluxe three-disc package contains two CDs and a full-length bonus DVD the first box set ever to expand upon their seminal megaplatinum hitmaking decade at Epic Records with nearly two decades' more material from five of the band's subsequent record labels, covering the years 1986-2000. 2009 will officially mark the 35th anniversary of Kansas and the release of their debut album in 1974. Shortly after the band dismantled after being released from the label. After several years under the radar on a ranch in Montana, lead vocalist David Reece (ex-Accept / Dareforce) was contacted by Escape Records in 2007 to see what the chances would be for him to go to Sweden to sing on Swedish band Gypsy Rose’s next release. Soon after that David found himself in the studio for the next year recording and writing for the new GYPSY ROSE CD “Another World” to be released June 20th, 2008. While touring and doing The Sweden Rock Festival in June of 07 and opening for AEROSMITH in Europe, Reece regained his passion for music, deciding he wanted to put Bangalore Choir back together. Reece contacted former band mate John Kirk. Upon returning from Sweden the process was put into motion. David found himself on his way to Northern California to Kirk’s studio EVP Productions to start laying down tracks with a catalog of new material.
