Snaggletooth Magazine

by Paul Autry

This is one of the better music publications that I've seen in a long time. Of course, as with every magazine, you have a ton of advertisements, which I tend to have an issue with...especially the publications that care more about makin' money than spreading musicial information. We have a magazine in our area that's been around way too long and on damn near every page, they more or less beg for ad money, which is sad and pathetic if you ask me. Luckily, that's not the case here. In fact, I only saw one mention of how to advertise in this issue and it was kind of out of the way...they didn't slap you in the face with it, which is cool. Also, the way the advertisements were set up actually impressed me here...they were eye catching and informative. I saw plenty of websites that I plan on checkin' out in the near future. So, I guess you can say that's a job well done.

As for the music...there's a ton of information to be found within these pages. Most of the full length articles are short, sweet and straight to the point. I like that. I mean, there's an interview/article on Bruce Dickinson, Tony Iommi and Glenn Hughes, all of which are legendary figures in the music world. Each one deserves a number of pages in any magazine. But, they're only given a single page, except for Bruce Dickinson, who got two pages, one with a photo and the other with the interview. They were a quick read. But, they got their message across. I like that.

Near the end of the issue, there's about eight pages worth of reviews, which is what a music magazine is really all about. They're not long and drawn out reviews, which is cool. They get straight to the point, which is a writing style that I try to use...although I tend to stray from that path more often than not. The only problem I really had was the fact that there wasn't any contact information to go with the reviews. If I see a disc that I might like...I have to go through the trouble of tracking it down. Adding a website, phone number or e-mail address would be a good idea.

The highlight of this issue (#6) is the cover story on Metal Queen Management. The photo of Betty Dworatschek on page 14 was worth the price of admission alone. Plus, she had a lot to say and it was certainly the highlight of my reading experience.

Personally, if I was gonna do my own magazine...which, now that I mentioned it, is something that I'm actually working on...I would wanna do something like Snaggletooth. Besides being a good read, as I'm sitting here in front of my computer trying to do my own thing, I'm gonna look to this publication as a source of inspiration. Job well done!!!
