By Wayne Klinger As usual I get so wrapped up with reviews and the underground in general that I miss these bands that get high praise from the fans--I seen this band mentioned in numerous publications and the sort;this is finally my first listen and I actuall went out the other day and bought "Legacy of Kings" to give me more to go on review-wise.So actually I'm 2/3 of the way there for full-length releases as they put out 3 singles as well and I have no clue if they have bonus/unreleased tracks on them or not. The band itself is a well-polished Swedish unit originally made up of personnel from In Flames, Dark Tranquillity,Keegan and others.Despite a somewhat modified line-up since then,Hammerfall has recruited Jens Johannson on drums, more noted for his long stint with his brother Jens in Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force. The end result is stifling progressive metal with a touch of thundering rhythms, speedy chops and melodic passages with medieval themes like Manowar,Virgin Steele and newer bands Kamelot,Stratovarius,Ivory Tower,etc..10 tracks on this one and follows "Legacy.." like another chapter in Hammerfall's biblical portrayal of true metal scriptures.I see why this band is one of the more recent ravings of the fans the last 2 years. |
