By Jonathan Mariante Fractional Importance really just reminds me of a lot of other popular bands out there today, such as Type O Negative, Godsmack, and Smashing Pumpkins' harder stuff. The music is dark and brooding, doomy and gloomy, with crunchy, Sabbath-style guitar riffs. The singer(I don't know his name, or the names of any of the other members. No info came with the CD) wails and moans throughout the record, sometimes screaming at the top of his lungs. He is similar to Peter Steele or Billy Corgan. All of the songs are depressing and about being depressed, which of course gets depressing after a while. The titles of some of them, such as "Pathetic", "All This Fake", "Numb", "Incomplete", "End This Way" (a very short tune that features only bass and singing) and closer "Forget To Breathe" alone tell you that this group aren't going to be singing about rocking and rolling every night and partying every day. I don't know about other people, but I like to have my spirits lifted when I'm listening to music! Plus, all the songs sound pretty much the same, which makes it unexciting as well as depressing. I'm not saying this group sucks, they're reasonably good musicians, it's just that this doomy-gloomy-life-is-so-depressing type of music just isn't my thing, plus they need to write songs that don't all sound exactly alike. A little variety and originality is needed here to spice things up a bit, plus they need to lighten up a bit on the gloomy, depressing stuff. There is already enough depressing music (and depressing stuff in general) in the world today.
