Poptart Monkeys By: Paul Autry |

A short time ago, I could have said that The Poptart Monkeys are one of Pennsylvania's best kept secrets. But, they've been building a solid fanbase that goes well beyond the borders of Pennsylvania. They're one of the most explosive live bands around and they've been taking their show on the road...again, well beyond the borders of Pennsylvania. But, a good band needs something to build on and, when it comes to The Poptart Monkeys, their foundation is built upon a twelve song release titled "Dancing With My Lunatic." First of all, this album features two rather interesting covers..."Unbelievable" and "Obsession." I've gotta admit, this is the only band that could pull off those two songs and pull them off well...especially "Obsession," which they've made heavier. As for their original music, that's what I really enjoy. While most people would be quick to consider The Poptart Monkeys a rock 'n' roll band, their music has a bit more variety and it wouldn't do the band justice to use such a simple term to describe them. A brief rundown of their songs is enough to prove that..."Wrecking Ball" is a straight forward rock 'n' roll song, "La De Da" is a little upbeat pop rock sort of tune, "Choked" reminds me of Nirvana, "Dancefloor Collission" is in the hard rock with rap style vocals vein and "Doorway Home" is an acoustic driven number. Each song on this album has a life of its own. While the band has created their own unique sound...you know a Poptart Monkeys song when you hear it...they offer the listener something more than a typical rock 'n' roll record. There's a lot of hype behind this band and if you wanna find out if it's all true, just check out "Dancing With My Lunatic," and you'll quickly realize that, yes, it is ALL true. Best songs on this disc..."Dancefloor Collision" and "Bounce With Me."
