The December People
"Sounds Like Christmas"
Magna Carta Records

By: Paul Autry

Well, one thing's for sure. This is probably the most interesting release that Magna Carta records has ever put out. As you can tell by the name of the band and the album title, this is a Christmas album. But, it's unlike any you have ever heard before. If I may quote from the liner notes for a moment, "If great groups such as Yes, Pink Floyd, Queen, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, ELP, Led Zepplin, King Crimson, Kansas, Sting and The Beatles all recorded familiar Christmas songs, what would they sound like? The answer is pretty simple. They would sound like Christmas with the unmistakable stamp of each of these timeless artists." That quote pretty much describes the whole concept of this release. On certain songs, you'll hear the musical style of, say, Led Zepplin or King Crimson or Peter Gabriel or...well, listen and you'll see...uh, hear...for yourself. This release also features a wide variety of guest vocalists, including Robert Berry and Steve Walsh to name a few. As a special bonus track, the legendary Kansas provides and performs an original tune called "The Light." The holiday season is a magical time of the year and, with the release of "Sounds Like Christmas," that magic continues to flow. This is a seriously good album, there's no better way to say it and, it's the perfect gift for that special someone in your live who can appreciate good music...good holiday music at that. The December People's "Sounds Like Christmas" is the gift that will keep on giving. Highly recommended!
