The Underground By: Don Sill |

Here is a 14-song compellation album that features many new up and coming aggressive rock bands that may have the balls to go far within the scene but not necessarily the talent. Some suck and some rock all depending on what decibel you like your music. "The Underground" off Most Wanted Records, showcases bands of all forms of rock genres and all levels of talent. From death metal acts like "Juice" and "Alien Genocide" to old school heavy metal like "Loco Tribe," to alternative metal such as "Flinch," "Rukus" and "Vent" as well as played out rap-metal like "Five Point-O" and "Adrenaline." There are even commercial platinum sellers like "Papa Roach" and emo-rockers "Alien Ant Farm." There is something for every rock fan on this LP and it also widens the spectrum and exposes fans to different music as well as new bands. Stand-out bands such as 'Vent' show their potential with their song "One Small Choice" that is unique and hard hitting. Fronted by Jason Boyd this band has the capabilities of really becoming a commercial success. They have a heavy edge along with a soothing melody, steady harmonies and a tight hook. This is surely one for the TRLers and radio hipsters. Thunder Chicken's "Wrong" is a wicked display of aggressive emo-enraged rock that combines melody with mayhem. Similar to Linkin Park they have the ability to go from one extreme to another and make it work. Possibly the best song on the disk, this is the band to watch. Then there was Spinfest's "Create The Hate" which is a tired and run-to-the-ground rap-rock tune that is short of anything special and basically should have not been included on this disk. This is the type of music that any wanna-be who is 2 years behind the times may dig, but the rest of us who have moved on and evolved will know that this is just a giant load of crap. Overall, "The Underground" is a decent compellation of decent bands with decent tunes. There is nothing special about this album and nothing extremely horrible. It is obvious that Most Wanted Records (a gangsta rap label) is new to the metal scene, but I give them plenty of credit and salute them for bringing metal on board their label. Hopefully on "The Underground II" they'll look a little deeper into the underground scene and find some better acts.
