Fury
"Slavekind"
(Independent)

By Jonathan Mariante

They call AC/DC "The Thunder From Down Under." It looks as if another band is now out to claim that title, and they're called Fury! Fury is a good name for them! They're a bad-ass bunch of Aussies who play old-school style thrash metal with a vengeance! Their music is very heavy, fast, vicious, and aggressive, as all good thrash metal should be! They take a lot of influence from the classic Bay Area bands, like Testament, Exodus, and Forbidden. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd swear Fury was an 80's thrash band from 'Frisco! They really whoop some ass! They thrash out with the best of 'em! All eight songs on this album are neck breaking scorchers that really go for the throat! They can also play very well, and they have skill, conviction and precision. Guitarists Darren McLennan and Rick Boon really shred with fire, singer Mick O' Neil is very aggressive, and belts out like there's no tomorrow, drummer Derek Beauchamp thrashes away at lightning speed, and bassist Steven Comachio does a fine job with his instrument as well. These guys really hit the bull's eye, both in terms of talent and ass kicking! "Slavekind" is a knockout album, albeit a tad short! Fury could give many of today's so-called "metal" bands a run for their money! The music scene today does need a kick in the ass, and Fury is just the band to do it! This album is recommended to anyone who likes classic-style thrash and misses the glory days of this style of music, or anyone who's just in the mood for a good old ass kicking!
