The Spencer Davis Group This is a live performance from 1966 and it's also the first DVD release to feature the original line up of The Spencer Davis Group, which should be a real pleasure for some people. This black and white footage is supposed to be very rare and, to be honest with you, for being almost 40 years old, the quality of it is outstanding. It looks as though it was filmed for a television show. You get three tunes, "When I Come Home," "Dust My Blues" and "Mean Woman Blues." After that, you're treated to an interview with the band and then it's back to the rest of the performance. They finish up with five additional tracks, "Together Till The End Of Time," "I'm A Man," "Georgia On My Mind," "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "Keep On Running." You know...the music on here is way before my time and there's not a lot of music that I'm into that was made before I was even born. However, the highlight for me was "Georgia On My Mind" and "Gimme Some Lovin'," those tunes were worth the price of admission and they made this release worth watching...at least for me. Besides the concert performance, you're also treated to a 1967 documentary, "With Their New Face On," which includes the new line up of the band in the studio, at press confrences and various concerts. I'm not sure how rare this footage is, but, I'm sure it's not something a lot of people have...at least until now. I don't think you really need a review to motivate you into picking this one up...especially if you're a fan. All you really need is to be made aware that it's out there. Now that you know that...well...you know what to do. http://www.spencer-davis-group.com |
