February 2007Greenday | Blue Oyster Cult | bad_religion | Coheed & Cambria | Pixies | Seven Witches | Chris Farlowe | The Murder Junkies | The Pat Travers Band GREENDAY This is a like a look back at the band before they hit the big time. Yes the band had a history before they got huge. They were some no name punk band back in the day and what you have hear is some old footage and interviews from Larry Livermore, who signed the band way back when, some rock writers and a person who wrote a book on the band. For those who only know the band recently, here is a chance to get caught up and see how the band began and got to where they are at today. I had heard the band's name before, but not their old music and this was quite interesting to see how the band got to where they are at today and where they came from. Info: http://www.mvdb2b.com BLUE OYSTER CULT I remember this live records many, many moons ago and now it is being released with bonus tracks and a DVD on it to boot. This was a killer live album by this band done right in the smack of their heyday. Songs like Godzilla, E.T.I, Kick Out The Jams and of course Don't Fear the Reaper. 7 bonus tracks are on this baby and also a semi bootleg Dvd is included as well. Watch as the band crush through a set of classic tunes as only this band can do. A must have and I loved every second of this baby and if you have this, you'll need this new version. Info: http://www.legacyrecordings.com Bad Religion The DVD is a video punkumentary which captures on a home camcorder the events leading up to and after the riot that broke out at the El Portal Theater in North Hollywood on December 29th,1990. It was just by chance that this guy was able to video this show. And lucky for him, it seems he was the only one. Well, I guess him and a partner. The 38 minutes leading up to the riot have been well edited just show some crowds in the lobby and bits from the opening bands. Then you get to see the guy on stage telling the crowd that the Fire Marshall is shutting down the show due to some safety issues. I guess after the first bottle was thrown, the cameramen high tailed it out of the building. A riot breaks out, you're the only cameramen in the building, and you leave. So yes, there is no footage of what went on inside. None. Just some long distance footage out side of some cops and firemen hosing down some rowdy fans. That's it. Kinda lame if you ask me. There are some special features on the disk as well. Again nothing really too exciting. I was expecting a little more Bad Religion performances I guess. That and a little violence. Oh well, if you're a fan, you dig it. And kudos for the dudes filming it. That must still be a great story eh? But don't be too surprised if you become bored watching this. http://www.raw420.com Coheed & Cambria Fans rejoice! Recorded on May 20, 2006, Coheed And Cambria took the stage at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom to deliver an epic career-defining performance. 'The Last Supper…' captures the bands stellar and high driving performance before a sold out crowd. For me, their music that I had heard over the past couple years catching it on an alternative station or what not was just average to so-so to me. I don't get too terribly excited when a radio station starts playing the hell out of something. Especially around here. But after watching this DVD, and it only took one viewing, I have changed my mind a bit about the band. A great display of raw (yet a bit polished) talent here. The set-list has a generous selection of fan favorites to choose from. I recommend the start to finish set. It was a great show. And the production is pretty damn good too. You also get the usual extras after the concert which consists of some bonus videos, interviews and behind the scenes material. The shows set-list includes: 'In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth : 3, Ten Speed (Of God's Blood & Burial, Blood Red Summer, The Crowing, Wake Up, Delirium Trigger, A Favor House Atlantic, The Suffering, Everything Evil, Welcome Home and The Willing Well:The Final Cut' http://www.coheedandcambria.com PIXIES "loudQUIETloud" was a rather interesting and highly entertaining film. It wasn't at all what I expected. I thought this would be another "band breaks up, band gets back together, people still care" kind of rock documentary. Okay, sure, the band may have followed that break up/get back together/people still care formula during the course of their history. However, this film goes way beyond that simple mentality and, of course, you get to see the band doing what they do best, which is perform. But, what this film does...and what wasn't expected...is capture the band for who they really are. It breaks down the whole "rock star" image to show you that the four members who make up the Pixies are human just like everybody else on the planet. They all have their personal moments, things they need to deal with on a daily basis. They also have family and people they care about, which was a really nice touch. I mean, sure, you know a lot of your favorite musicians have husbands, wives, children, siblings, parents, whatever. But, how often do you actually get to see that part of a musicians life out in the open like that? I will admit that, between the live performances, the film does go a bit slow in some places. Then again, that's life...even for musicians. "loudQUIETloud" is more than a "band" movie. If you're like, "Oh, I like the band and their music and that's why I want this release," that's all well and good. But, if that's the way you approach this film, you're missing out on the big picture because, like I said, this is more than a simple "band" movie. This one goes a lot deeper and that is the beauty of this DVD. This is a must have release for anyone who has a love of The Pixies and what they're all about. SEVEN WITCHES I have seen this band live and they delivered the goods that night and they deliver it again on this DVD. Pure heavy metal played with power, passion, skill, and emotion. Not sure where this was filled, but you get a full set from the band and also some interviews and stuff as well. The camera work is pretty good and the sound is right where it needs to be. This isn't too polished, which works for me. This is the way metal was meant to be played and if you watch this, you'll be a fan of the band for sure. Info: http://www.screamingferret.com CHRIS FARLOWE I found this quite boring. Chris and his band play blues based rock, but not very good blues rock. The songs I found lacked any hook and I just couldn't get into any songs and I knew not one song before hand that this guy played. There is also a interview, a video clip and a slide show. Info: http://www.mvdb2b.com THE MURDER JUNKIES This is GG Allin's band minus him playing a show over in Europe in 2005. The guy that now sings has a pretty gruff and his voice does fit the music, which is fast shouted hardcore vocal and music. The band remind me of some of those old hardcore bands from the Jersey shore in the 80's like Dirge and Lethal Aggression. There is supposed to be some audio gig from G.G on here, but my DVD didn't have it or couldn't play it. Info: http://www.mvdb2b.com THE PAT TRAVERS BAND I love Pat Travers and this was shot back in 1975 before he hit the big time with his live release. The band he has is a 3 piece and they sound tight as this was shot over in Germany. The band rip through 10 tunes including: Boom Boom...Out Go The lights, Hooked on Music, and Makes No Difference. His voice sounds great and if your a fan of the man like me, you'll want this baby. I nfo: http://www.mvdb2b.com |
