Hard Vision

"Hey is Dee Dee Home"
MVD
by Paul Autry

This film, which was directed by Lech Kowalski, is a 2003 documentary feature about the life and times of Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who died from a drug overdose in 2002. This release is kind of like a raw Behind The Music special in which Dee Dee Ramone talks about Johnny Thunders, his drug habit, tattoos and the classic track "Chinese Rock." The bulk of this feature is nothing more than Dee Dee Ramone sitting there in the darkness talking about his life. There's some older clips thrown in here and there to give it a little extra flavor. There's a cool little poster that comes with this release as well as temporary Dee Dee tattoos and it comes packaged in a small orange and black box. There's also a clip of Johnny Thunders doing "Chinese Rock," which was cool to watch. But, give me The Ramones any day. While this is an interesting viewing experience that I would suggest checking out, I feel that Dee Dee is best remembered by pulling out your Ramones CD and throwing that into your CD player. My personal favorite is "Mania" because that's got pretty much the best material. I've got a lot of Ramones music, but, this is the one I listen to the most. Believe me, you can't go wrong with that release and, as far as this DVD goes, if you have any love at all for Dee Dee Ramone, by all means, add this one to your collection.
