Hard Vision

Elvis Presley
"The Last 24 Hours"
(MVD) by Paul Autry

Did you ever hear that old saying about beating a dead horse? Let me tell you something...Elvis Presley is dead, people. Get a grip already. Almost every detail of his life has been thrown into the public arena in one form or another. So, what more do you possibly need to know about him? With the wealth of material that's floating around out there, I find myself searching for an answer to that question. I'm not really an Elvis Presley fan. But, the corpse of the king is nothing more than a cash cow, instant income for people who wanna make a quick buck on his name. Is that really how you honor a legend? At least this release has a little class, which is quite impressive since the focus is on his death and, of course, you know there's a lot of tabloid style releases out there that have already traveled down this road. But, this one seems more honest and more sincere, probably because the story is told by the men who really knew the man behind the music. When they share their thoughts and memories, it's clear to see that they're still feeling the lost of their friend, who left the building on August 17th, 1977. I admire honesty and this release seems to be loaded with it. As an added feature, there's an audio disc that features a gospel tribute to Elvis that's performed by The Jordinaires and Johnny Earle. So, when you purchase this release, it's like getting the best of both worlds...audio and visual. Personally, I think more releases should offer something like this to the buying public. That whole less is more train of thought is garbage. More is more, remember that. About the only complaint I would have is the color booklet that's also included. It's not a big deal. Three pictures of Elvis, a scan of his autopsy report and, wow, a hand writing report. Trust me, you could toss the booklet and you wouldn't be missing anything. The DVD/CD is more than enough to entertain you.
