Hey all! I'm writing this update from the tour bus as we've just completed our first 6 shows (in a row) on the Poison/Dokken/SEBASTIAN BACH US tour and I finally have a day off. Looks like we got lucky and avoided the fury of Mother Nature at Rocklahoma - scary to hear about stages collapsing and stuff. Glad nobody got seriously hurt beyond one broken arm. We dodged the rain again the next day at the Moondance Jam in Minnesota - check out our version of 'Back In The Saddle' and some of the other videos that are already floating around on YouTube. The Poison and Dokken guys have been very friendly and it's good to be on out on the road with them. It's always interesting when you start a tour like this: Even though I've seen a few familiar faces from years past there's tons of new people to meet, including all the band members, techs, sound and lighting guys, riggers, and all the people in production and management that make a tour happen. By now we've pretty much bonded with everyone who's along for the ride. In the immortal words of the mighty Sister Sledge: "We Are Family!" Before the tour started we needed a day of rehearsal to work out a few things. Sebastian arranged for us to spend a couple days at the Fontanel Mansion, built in 1988 just outside of Nashville, TN by country music superstar Barbara Mandrell. A couple nights ago on the bus, Sebastian popped in the 'Roadrage' DVD that's part of the expanded version of 'Angel Down', out July 21 through Demolition Records in the UK (they're also doing a vinyl picture disc, packaged in a double gatefold album sleeve, with an A3-sized poster!) and as an FYE exclusive at all FYE stores nationwide this summer. I hadn't seen it yet but I gotta say the DVD came out pretty damn cool! There's footage of us rehearsing, doing pre-production for and recording 'Angel Down' out in L.A., as well as 5 live songs - 'American Metalhead' (Detroit, MI - Palace Of Auburn Hills), 'Stuck Inside' (Mt. Fuji, JAP - Udo Music Festival), '(Love Is) A Bitchslap' (Calgary, CAN - Calgary Saddledome), 'By Your Side' (Calgary, CAN - Calgary Saddledome), and 'You Don't Understand' (Winnipeg, CAN - MTS Centre) - filmed with multiple cameras on the 2006 North American tour with Guns N' Roses. Good stuff! Last but not least, I'm once again a full-fledged Texas boy! Just before I left for the tour, my wife Carol and I made the decision to move back to our hometown of San Antonio. We had been living in L.A. for almost 6 years. We moved to the West Coast back in 2002 when I was doing a lot of work with Halford. I knew that Rob would rejoin the Priest guys eventually but I thought it would be a great opportunity to broaden my circle of contacts by being in L.A.. Although Carol and I enjoyed our time there, SA has always been "home" to us and it's great to be back there with our families and friends. I'm looking forward to getting back and setting up shop with my drums and recording equipment as soon as we get a break from the road. Catch y'all later. PHOENIX, ARIZONA Driven Music Group, Inc. today announces that they have signed Florida metal act CROSSBREED to a multi-album deal. It was one of those shows-a radio show hosted by Tampa's WXTB in early 2000-that landed a Crossbreed demo in the hands of Kittie, who brought the tape to the attention of their label Artemis Records. They signed a deal soon after, spending the latter part of the year holed up in a New York City studio where they wrote and recorded the songs that would become Synthetic Division. The album went on to sell over 50,000 copies in the United States, while the band continued to tour across the country. STEVE WYNN TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM IN U.S. IN SEPTEMBER After several years of recording and extensive touring with his band the Miracle 3, Steve Wynn will be releasing a new album on September 9th in the U.S. on Rock Ridge Music. Entitled "Crossing Dragon Bridge," it is his first solo album since 2001's "Here Come the Miracles." Said Wynn: "I associate this record so much with the time I spent writing and recording in Slovenia last fall. Hearing it again as a U.S. release feels almost like a suitcase that I forgot to unpack. I'm really glad that Rock Ridge is allowing me the chance to share this music with people on this side of the Atlantic and give me the chance to turn off the lights and give my own version of an aural slide show from my musical holiday." The record was recorded in Ljubljana with Chris Eckman of the Walkabouts who also plays and sings on the record. "It felt like a good time to get up under the hood and strip everything back down to the song," Wynn says about the project. "Most of the tracks began with the song and my acoustic guitar and then we just built it back up from there." But the record is anything but a solo folk recordadditional elements include a Slovenian choir as well as a Czech orchestra overdubbed in Prague. "I would say that this record sounds like nothing I've done before but it also sounds more like me than anything I've done before," Wynn says. "I was able to follow the same reckless and spontaneous flights of fancy that I would normally only feel safe enough to indulge myself at home. But Chris was a great co-conspirator and helped me to empty out the insides of my skull onto the tracks. - "We had a ball. I would wake up each morning in my apartment on some old, narrow street in Slovenia, grab a coffee, shake off the cobwebs and then make my way to the studio with a song, some ideas and pretty much limitless possibility. The life there is easy, the food is heavy and the beer is good. It all made for the right combination." The record was mixed in January by Tucker Martine (Decemberists, Laura Veirs, Sufjan Stevens) and was released in earlier this year in Europe to much press acclaim. Mojo touted Wynn's "enduring originality," while Uncut proclaimed that the album "finds the prolific Californian turning down the volume and embracing his inner folkie." Other European press outlets deemed it "magnificent," "lovely," "wonderfully melancholy," "naked and vulnerable," and "one of Steve's best albums so far." My buddy Brian Pulido wrote and directed it. Brian is a long time comic book author (creator of "Lady Death", "Evil Ernie", and founder of Chaos Comics) who has put down the pen long enough to yell and scream at me and production assistants, er, I mean direct his first feature film. He also happens to be a metal head from waaaaay back- his character Evil Ernie is partially based on my pal Bobby Blitz of Overkill fame. Brian and I met at Ozzfest '04 through our mutual friend James "The Metal Legend" Collins and have been friends ever since. JC had mentioned to me that Brian was making a movie, so the next time Lamb rolled through Phoenix, Brian came out, and I pressured him into giving me a shot at a part. A few auditions later and I had the part of Luke, an upstanding citizen of the town of Unity, AZ, where the film is set. "Without giving too much away, the movie is about two sisters who road trip through the desert and wind up in Unity. Something not so nice is happening there, and the man behind it appears to be the local Reverend, played by Tony Todd (Candy Man, Platoon, and a ton of other stuff). Luke is basically the Rev's right hand man, an enforcer of sorts. The two (smokin' hot) sisters get caught up in the mix, and as often happens in horror movies, some blood is spilled here and there. After the object crashed on a ranch north of Roswell the Roswell, the Army Air Field issued a statement claiming to have recovered a crashed flying disk.
